This post will probably make you think I’m crazy as we’re all now on the futuristic place but hey! It’s a culture! It’s a belief! A religious sort of thingand I’m sure some of you maybe interested in learning a bit about it just like I did! Yes, that’s why I went to this small hindu temple, the famous ‘Erawan Shrine‘ here in Bangkok, Thailand!

I have actually heard of this place quite a lot and seriously, when you go to Downtown Bangkok (Siam / Pratunam / Chidlom and all that) and walk on the sky walk, you wouldn’t miss this shrine on the way. There are always full of people, like, a lot of them! From early morning till late night. Both foreigners and Thais along with this unique Thai traditional music throughout the days.

Erawan Shrine (ศาลพระพรหมเอราวัณ)

Erawan Shrine or Thao Maha Phrom Shrine is a house for Phra Phrom, the Hindu god of creation. The god’s full of kindess, mercy, sympathy and impartiality represented by his 4 faces! The reason we call ‘Erawan Shrine’ because it’s located just right in front of Erawan Hotel.

People/believers/worshippers come here, pray and wish for things. The amount of people you see probably tell you something, a lot of their wishes have been granted.. and the word of mouth bring all them here.

How to worship the Erawan Shrine?

At first I didn’t really know that there’s such a thing but I skim through some videos and posts online, a lot of them have the titles ‘How to..’. No, I didn’t go that deep into the topic but instead, once I was at the Erawan Shrine, I asked a person who was selling the sets of flowers, incenses and candles.

– You get the worshipping set
– Start the worship (+ including your name) from the main entrance side of the Brahma god.
– Go around the clock and complete 4 faces of them (tell your name on every one of them).
– Put the flowers and the candle at the main entrance side.
– 3 incenses on each side.

What would be good gifts in return if your wish’s granted?

There’s so many things I could think of as really, I was born and raise in such a culture. Fruits, Fanta drink (red one!), pig heads, all the food pretty much. There are some special things you could have as choices here as seems like there’s a trend or the god loves them!

– The Thai traditional dance troupe.

– Wooden/golden elephants.

Both of them could be order there at the Erawan Shrine! Oh! Are you curious why elephants??

Erawan (เอราวัณ) means elephant

Yes, yes, yes! I did worship there with all the flowers and all following the certain directions for the very first time! I randomly wish for stuffs as well That’s pretty much all you could do around there and maybe go shopping some more as there’re these fancy malls all around. No! Not the fanciest one!

Totally a belief and either you believe in it or not, I would still recommend you go check out and see the Thai traditional dance there! You don’t find it in all the street corner you know!
