This is a trip for 5 days and 4 nights, backpacking and taking train to Penang - Cameron Highlands - Kuala Lumpur. And yes, even alone, I have fun roaming around😝😝

Penang, Malaysia
Penang is a small island in Malaysia close to Thailand. It is a small charming town full of arts and being so classic. In the daytime, it is a street art and at night, the town turns into a colorful place for party lovers. Penang is easy to travel, cheap, and very close to Thailand
😝😝

**Transportation Guide**

-I take the train from Hat Yai Railway Station to Padang Besar. The train ticket is 50 THB and it is about 2 hours ride.

I choose to stay one night at Hat Yai in order to take a morning train. I stay at this little lovely hostel, The Hive Hatyai Hostel http://thehivehatyai.com/en/home/. I book it via booking and each night is 337.50 THB. The room is very beautiful and clean. The staff is friendly. The location is great and very near to the railway station. It is so cost-effective for the traveler like me.

-Once reaching Padang Besar Railway Station, we can start the immigration process of leaving Thailand and arriving to Malaysia 😝😝 (Do not forget to bring your passport along).

-Then, I buy the KTM train ticket from Padang Besar to Butterworth ( 4 hours ride).

-From the Butterworth Station, I walk to the pier for a ferry ride to Penang (30 minutes ride).

-Upon arriving at Penang Island, it is advised to take the CAT bus from Penang Station which is a free bus driving to downtown. If you haven't yet booked your hotel, you ca get off at Komtar Building and find one from George Town area.

**Main activities that must not miss**

This place is for arts lovers as we can enjoy the arts around the town. It is for those who enjoy slow life and be with the atmosphere. Penang is famous for street food. Don't forget to stop by for a taste of Lok Lok, which is so delicious 😋😋

This small town is full of charming arts. If you are an arts lover, you must visit once. And I'm sure you will fall for this simple but has so much to offer city 😁

Here is the downtown area, if you don't know where to go or what to do, you can always start from Komtar building 😂

Beautiful Street Art

💚

Vintage Style 🌈☀️

Old town...

Then, I spend quite a quality time at this very beautiful temple in downtown. I don't remember its name 😂 All I know is it locates nearby the Komtar building 🤣🤣

It is a Chinese style temple, very beautiful.

**Where to stay in Penang?**

-George Town, Jalan Muntri alley is recommended. It has lots of street art and the Love lane has lots of drinking bars which is the best area of those who love to drink 😝😝

-I stay at MyHostel Muntri, I book with booking, each night is 152 THB. It is a small hostel which might not be so convenient but considered to be cost-effective in many ways.

After Penang, let's take a 4 hours bus ride and enjoy a good mountain view at Cameron Highlands. If you love green, you must come here. The tea plantation here is really spectacular. 😝😝😌😌

One important facts is that "despite having tea plantations, Malaysia does not have tea."
It is so because most of these teas are imported from Japan and China. If some tour guide tell you that this is a Malaysian tea, you can be sure that they are deceiving you. Local tour guide has confirmed with me that they do not produce tea locally but import it and then grow them here. 🙂 🌱

I choose to join trip with other people so that I can make new friends 😂 The tour guide of the jeep tour here is so lovely and so do my co-trip friends 🤣🤣🤣😝😝😝

Jeep Tour 🚗

Here is another highlight that we must stop for beautiful photos. I take this photo from higher angle. 😊😊

The green lovers would have to visit here and so do other nature lovers 🤣🤣😝

Many people ask what tea is famous and that we should try to drink here once. "Kurang milk tea" is recommended. It is a green tea that is similar to tea in Thailand but mixed with milk. The taste is not different from Thai tea. If you love tea and enjoy sipping a cup of hot drink, I think you would enjoy it 😁😁

The Mossy Forest Of Gunung Binchang
Besides tea plantations, there are also hiking activities to explore the forest too. It offers both half day and full day tour. If you like this type of activity, you can buy a tour at the bus station or from your accommodation 😁😁

I meet this new friend along the way. Her name is Seema and she is a Canadian tourist. We met each other by chance and became friends. Then I asked to stay at the same accommodation as hers because I haven't booked my hostel yet, haha.

I stay at the Mentigi Cameron Highlands with Seema. Each night is 800 THB. The price is quite expensive because it locates on highland and comes with mountain view. Yes, I think it's worth the stay as it's very relaxed given the cool and nice weather.

Here is how our room looks like.

In the evening, I take the bus from Cameron Highlands to Kuala Lumpur. Seema wanted to spend another night here so we then separated. Here is how our bus looks like. If you travel alone, you can book the solo seat too.

There's a power plug and free WiFi on the bus too.

Hello...Kuala Lumpur

Actually, Kuala Lumpur is not in my plan because I think I won't have enough time to travel. But when time comes, nothing can stop me from my own thought 😂 At that moment, I decided to throw away my ticket back to Thailand. Instead, I took the bus from Cameron Highlands to Kuala Lumpur, haha 🤣🤣🤣 No hotel booking, no plan, all I know is Kuala Lumpur, here I come🤣🤣🤣🤣

Kuala Lumpur is known as a city of transportation. It is so convenient with high-speed trains and a good place for those who love to roam around by the metro. It is also a place for shopping and various type of food. It indeed is a great place for the food lover. But for hippies, this city may not be so self-fulfilling because there is little nature. Everything has been created and civilized in a city way. But in total, it wasn't bad because it is convenient and easy to travel around. Also, you don't need to be afraid of getting lost since it only applies to metro stations haha 🤣🤣🤣 It is also a country with many nationalities and languages, including Chinese, Malay, Indian. It certainly gives you an impression of ASEAN community 😁😁

Actually, I got quite confused with how to ride the metro here. I choose to get off at Pesar Seni Station and walk around to find accommodation. I stay at Backpackers II which costs 500 THB a night. The price is not expensive and the room is quite good.

Of course, the first destination when coming to Kuala Lumpur can be nowhere but the famous twin towers. It is a department store for teens. It is so convenient and easy to reach here, just take the metro and get off at KLCC and you will reach the famous twin towers 😁😁

Batu Caves, Hindu Temple
We can reach here with the metro by taking the KTM Komuter from KL Sentral and get off at Batu Caves station. It's so easy, you just need to get off at the terminal stop 🤗🤗

There're monkeys at Batu Temple too. But please be gentle to them, otherwise, they could be real violent to you too 🤣🤣🐵🐵

Here comes the end of my solo trip to Malaysia. The information may be incomplete, experiences may not always be good, but it truly is fun and exciting, haha 🤣🤣🤣
