I have always driven past the Klong Toei market, village and slum on the way to my friends house or to a restaurant. The sights I've seen along the way have been very superficial. I'd notice a little here and there but nothing that could really make me understand how the locals live here.

This time, on a Sunday morning, I decided to walk this area instead. With a camera in hand, I began my journey by taking the MRT (subway train) to Queen Sirikit National Convention Center station. I alighted at the exit that took me to the Rama IV and Klong Toei market intersection.

While walking towards the market, I noticed the newly built co-working space - FYI center. Again, I've always drove past but never had the state of mind to explore it so I took the opportunity this time.

I walked around, marveling and appreciating the architectural design. It was absolutely beautiful but I didn't go inside the building.

Here meet Mr. & Mrs. Spark. They symbolize the symbiotic energy transfer of creativity and inspiration. Something is very important at work spaces.

Local Market

After walking around a bit, I continued on as I took the flyover footpaths towards the Klong Toei market. Here I practiced some photography (I would have to come here at night also to get some night shots).

Until I finally crossed the road and reached the market. It was interesting to see locals selling and buying things. They had everything from fresh food to fruits and vegetables to even delicious snacks. All so cheap too!

Life along the train tracksnte

What I really wanted to see were the slums/villages nearby and a train track that went through them.

Obviously the homes were built after the train tracks but it was an interesting thing to see up close and personal. As I walked along, locals smiled and waved at me. I even made conversations with them in my broken Thai but they seem to love it. They even took pictures!

To get to this area: Simply walk past the Klong Toei market until you reach an intersection. At the intersection, if you walk a bit further, you'll see a train track on the road. Face either left or right from there and you will a narrow lane where the train track goes through. Follow it. The village/slum would be on the right side while on the left side, it is a bit more isolated and empty.
